The Abergavenny Thursdays is a football club with a rich history spanning nearly 100 years. During this time the club fortunes have flucuated – at its best it has been a sporting institutuion well known throughout Wales, providing a platform for all ages to participate in football, and operating as a valuable and vibrant social centre in the town of Abergavenny. At its worst, as in the last 10 years, its rich potential has been wasted and but for the selfless work of a handful of indivuals, would have been lost forever.
The Thursday Trust aims to reverse the decline of the last decade. It is a convergence of club supporters, community groups, local businesses and the town and county council who all share the same objective – to create a professional management team dedicated to reversing the club’s fortunes and realizing its potential, both on and off the pitch.
We are all aware that this cannot be achieved overnight, but over time we have two goals: To regenerate the stadium complex and revitalise the social facilities, and to create a stable environment where the club’s senior and junior players can flourish and rediscover success.
To do this we need support from both the town and like-minded members of its community. If you are one of the many people saddened by the decline or disappearance of the insitutuions once so vital to the character and identity of our town, then we urge you to join us.
By becoming a member of the Thursday Trust you can participate in the decision making process and make your views count, or simply rest assured that your membership fee will assist with the club’s regeneration.
“I give my full support to The Thursday Trust in their campaign to regenerate the Abergavenny Thursdays as a community owned football club. In these times its easy to forget that a well run football club can be more than just a sporting body - it's also a focal point for the community at large, a cause for civic pride.
More often than not these institutions can survive even the worst management but sometimes the obstacles seem so insurmountable that it seems impossible to survive. It’s at times like these we must rally round and realise that once these assets have gone they have gone forever, and for that reason I have given my full support to this campaign and joined The Thursday Trust"
